Presented at the 42nd Annual Chacmool Conference, 2010
Prior to upgrades to the Highway 27 Morrin Bridge over the Red Deer River in Alberta, personnel of Bison Historical Services Ltd. conducted an assessment of archaeological sites within the project footprint. This presentation briefly touches the results from two archaeological sites that were excavated as part of this project. These sites span approximately 3,000 years of human occupation, and exemplify site types typical of the Alberta plains. A narrower focus is placed on one of these two sites (EjPf-4), and on several interesting artifacts and features (such as ochre processing and storage areas) that were identified during these excavations. Implications regarding site type and seasonality as well as future directions for specialized analysis are also discussed.
